How events are chosen
What's On in Eastbourne lists business and professional events in and around Eastbourne, and checks every one before it goes up. Here is exactly what gets listed and how.
What gets listed
The guide covers events where local business owners, managers and professionals meet, learn or support a good cause together: networking, business breakfasts and lunches, workshops, talks, seminars, professional development, women in business groups and charity fundraisers with a business audience.
An event is listed when anyone in the local business community can book or attend it, free or paid, and its organiser publishes the details on their own page. Members' events are listed when non-members can book too, so every listing is one a reader can actually go to. Groups that admit only one business per profession, such as referral clubs, are not listed.
Where
Eastbourne and the towns and villages within about 10 miles: Hailsham, Polegate, Pevensey, Pevensey Bay, Westham, Stone Cross, Willingdon, Wannock, East Dean, Friston, Jevington, Alfriston, Herstmonceux, Hellingly and Magham Down. Eastbourne's own neighbourhoods, such as Hampden Park, Langney, Sovereign Harbour, Meads and Old Town, are shown by name.
The guide stays local, so events further afield, for example in Brighton, Lewes, Bexhill or Hastings, are left to guides for those towns.
How each event is checked
- The date, time, venue, price and booking link are checked against the organiser's own event page before the listing goes up.
- Each listing gets a short, factual description of 60 to 80 words: what the event is, who it is for, what to expect and how to book.
- Every event sits in one category, using the definitions below, so the category pages stay useful.
- When an event is cancelled or postponed, its page says so clearly and points to other events coming up.
- Finished events drop off the lists automatically at the end of their last day and move to the past events archive.
The nine categories
| Category | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Networking | Primary purpose is meeting other professionals. |
| Breakfast | Business event starting before 10:00 with food. |
| Lunch | Business event between 12:00 and 15:00 with food. |
| Workshop | Hands-on learning with a practical output. |
| Talks & Panels | Speaker-led, the audience mainly listens. |
| Seminar | Educational presentation or lecture. |
| Professional Development | Skills-building without a hands-on format. |
| Women in Business | For, or mainly attended by, women in business. |
| Charity & Fundraising | Proceeds to charity or charity-organised, any format. |
Two rules settle events that could fit more than one category. An event organised by a charity, or raising money for one, is always Charity & Fundraising, whatever its format. Otherwise, an event with food that starts before 10am is always a Breakfast, even when networking is the main purpose.
Where events come from
Organisers send events through the Submit your event form, and What's On in Eastbourne also follows the calendars of local chambers of commerce, business networks, charities and venues. Every event goes through the same checks, wherever it comes from.
Featured events and sponsorship
Listings are free, and the featured events on the homepage are an editorial choice. If the guide ever carries a sponsored slot, it will always be clearly labelled as sponsored.
Get your event listed
