How to get people to your business event in Eastbourne

A practical checklist for Eastbourne organisers: what to publish, where to list it, when to promote it and how to turn bookings into a full room.

Most business events in Eastbourne succeed or struggle on the same few things: a clear event page, a listing in the places local professionals look, and reminders at the right moments. This guide covers each step, from the first announcement to the morning of the event.

Start with a clear event page

Everything else points here, so get it right first. Your event page, on your own website or a booking platform such as Eventbrite, should answer every question before anyone has to ask:

  • What it is and who it is for, in the first two lines. “A breakfast for Eastbourne business owners with a talk on cash flow” beats a clever name on its own.
  • The date, start and finish times. People plan around the finish time, especially for breakfasts before work.
  • The venue, with its full address and postcode. Add the nearest car park and the walk from the station.
  • The price, and what it includes. Say whether breakfast or lunch is in the ticket, and whether non-members pay more.
  • How to book, and by when. One clear button or link.
  • Access. Step-free entry, lifts and hearing loops. Leaving it out keeps some people away.
  • A good, wide image with little or no text on it, at the size your booking platform asks for.

Search engines read the details from a well-built event page, which helps your event show up when people search for things to do, and brings in people who have never heard of your group.

List it where local professionals look

  1. Submit it to What’s On in Eastbourne. Listing is free, and you can just send the booking link. The guide checks every event against your page and aims to publish within two working days. Your event then also appears in the Sunday email for its week and in the calendar feeds. How events are chosen explains what qualifies.
  2. Tell the local networks. Members of the local Chambers of Commerce and other networks can often share news at meetings, and it is worth asking whether a group can pass your event on to its members. At the Eastbourne Unltd Chamber’s main monthly breakfast, each member present gets a minute for their news.
  3. Post where your audience already is. For most business events that means LinkedIn, plus local Facebook business groups where self-promotion is allowed.
  4. Ask your speakers and partners to share it. A speaker’s post reaches people your own channels never will.

Promote it at the right moments

  • Four to six weeks before: publish the event page, list it and announce it. Business diaries fill early, so an early announcement gives people time to keep the date free.
  • Two weeks before: share something new, such as the speaker, the topic or who is already coming.
  • One week before: a reminder to your list and a second post. Many people book in the last week or so, so this reminder matters.
  • The day before: send booked guests a short reminder with the time, address, parking and what to bring.

Free events need the reminders most: people who book free tickets drop out more often, so a friendly note the day before keeps the room full.

Keep your listing accurate

If the time, venue or price changes, update your event page and send a correction so every listing matches. If the event is cancelled or postponed, say so clearly rather than deleting the page: people who booked may still look it up.

On the day, and after

  • Welcome people at the door and introduce first-timers to someone. A good first visit brings people back.
  • Start and finish on time. Business audiences remember an event that respected their diary.
  • Follow up within a couple of days with thanks, any slides or links, and the date of the next event.
  • Publish the next date early. The easiest booking is the one made while the last event is still fresh.
